When it rains it pours… or when I start, I can't stop

A new painting, which I have just finished, but been quietly working away on for the last 2 weeks.

I keep reading Alice in Wonderland and have done another Alice inspired piece…  inspired by her first venture into Wonderland and growing taller than she ever could imagine, she cries huge tears, that then when shes shrunk herself down again are a sea she tries not to drown in…

The original Victorian illustration

Alice in a sea of tears. (illustration to the second chapter of Alice in Wonderland) by John Tenniel.Wood-engraving by Thomas Dalziel.

‘I wish I hadn’t cried so much!’ Said Alice, as she swam about trying to find her way out. ‘I shall be punished for it now, I suppose, by being drowned in my own tears!”

I used whole punched paragraphs of the book, from this section (see the passage above), to create the tears, which were then painted sepia. Unfortunately, I don’t think this comes across as well as I would like, and so I will be experimenting with larger pole punches and smaller type.
